Specs HD5870 1GB/2GB and HD5850 1G

We finally figured out out the final specification of the chip that we called RV870 and the fact that AMD plans to call it Radeon HD 5870 doesn’t come as a big surprise. The chip works at 825MHz and has 1600 shaders, two times more than RV770 which indicates that the chip is two times faster than the year old RV770.

The chip has as mmany as 2.1 billion transistors and is more than twice the number the RV770 packs, which has 956 million transistors. The card uses GDDR5 memory clocked at 1.3GHz (5.2GHz in quad mode) and can provide more than 150GB/second bandwidth. The power of this card stays at 180W while in idle the power drops down to 27W, three times less than the 90W on 4870.

By a rough specification-based estimate, the Radeon HD 5870 could end up two times faster than the Radeon HD 4870 but realistically, you should expect the new card to be faster by about 60 percent across the board.

As you can imagine, ATI's Radeon HD 5850 card is a slower and crippled version of the Radeon HD 5870 and this slower card has 1440 shaders and runs at 725MHz.

The Radeon HD 5870 has 1600 shaders and runs at 825MHz. GDDR5 memory runs at 1000MHz compared to 1300MHz on the 5870 card and this results in a memory bandwidth of 136GB/s, which is more than the HD 4870.

Just like the Radeon HD 5870, this card comes with 32ROPs and the maximum power consumption is 170W under load and 27W when idle. The launch date is September 23rd.

We received some details about the name of the chip that ATI codenamed Cypress which we have called RV870. The internal generation codename is Evergreen and this name represents the entire DirectX 11 generation of ATI cards.

The top card is named Radeon HD 5870 but the company plans two versions, one with 2GB memory and one with 1GB.

The Radeon HD 5870 1GB should sell for $399 at launch, while Radeon HD 5870 2GB should sell for $449. At the same time, the slower Radeon HD 5850 with 1GB memory will sell for $299. The launch date for all three cards is September 23rd in Europe whereas in the US we are talking about the 22nd.

AMD Llano Fusion คือ DirectX 11

Still 2011, 32nm

We got a few more details about 2011 APU, which is graphics core and CPU brought together on a single, 32nm core and developed natively.

The spec includes DirectX 11 graphics core inside of this CPU, which is something to be happy about. In 2011, this will be the hottest DirectX as we don't believe that DirectX 12 can come that early. Microsoft is about to release DirectX 11 officially with Windows 7 in late October and this one should last a while.

The rest of the spec includes third generation of UVD which gives us a hint that the core that they might be using in Llano is actually going to be very similar to Cedar value or Redwood mainstream desktop chips or a mobile version codenamed Park.

The spec also includes PCIe 2.0 this is all part of Sabine (river) platform and can be expected at some point of 2011.

AMD debuts Athlon II X2 215

Current Athlon II X2 240 gains popularity among major consumers. However,it is not the CPU which has the lowest frequency.Athlon II X2 215,which seems not on official release list makes appearance.

Athlon II X2 215 works at 2.7Ghz with Socket AM3 interface.Dual core Athlon II X2 215 based on 45nm process has 13.5x multiplier,DDR2-800 and DDR3-1066/1333 memory controller. At the same time,it features 1MBx2 L2 cache with support for AMD64, SSE4A and AMD-V instruction sets.It is expected to be priced at below $59.

Radeon HD 5870

AMD fanboy or the opposite, you're in for a real treat tonight (or today, depending on your time zone) as a little shaky camera and its owner have managed to shoot a few stills of what's very likely AMD's upcoming Radeon HD 5870 graphics cards.

Seen below all covered up by a black cooling system, the quite long DirectX 11 card features a 40nm GPU rumored to boast 1600 Stream Processors, 1/2GB of GDDR5 memory, CrossFireX support, dual DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort outputs and a pretty fierce look. The imposing Radeon HD 5870 is expected to be released in Q4, hopefully a few weeks before Windows 7's launch, and may sell for $399. We'll have two please, one for each watering eye.

AMD Multi-Thread

AMD's next generation CPU features multi-threading

AMD's next generation architecture, codenamed Bulldozer, will feature a multi-threading system, Xbitlabs reports.

However, AMD claims that Bulldozer's multi-threading is different from the simultaneous multi-threading (SMT) available with Intel's HyperThreading.

The first Bulldozer desktop CPU, Orochi, is expected to be a 6/8 core CPU with >8MB cache, supporting DDR3 RAM, manufactured on 32nm. It is due to hit stores in 2011. The Fusion CPUs or APUs (Accelerated Processing Units), as AMD calls them, are also part of the Bulldozer architecture. Bulldozer is expected to support up to 16 cores. It is expected to be the most significant change in AMD's CPU architecture since K8, back in 2003.

The next CPU on AMD's roadmap is the 12-core server CPU "Magny Cours" based on a Multi-Chip Module, which packages two 6-core "Istanbul" dies in one package. The Magny Cours CPU is designed for the elongated Socket G34, and will launch in Q1 2010. It is also expected to be the last AMD CPU till Bulldozer, according to AMD's current roadmap. In the desktop arena, the Phenom II/Athlon II products may have to fight all the way through 2010, according to AMD's current roadmaps.
